Maths IA Day

RCN students are doing amazing. Today was not an ordinary day for us at UWC Red Cross Nordic. We were like researchers in mathematics. First year students taking Mathematics Analysis and Approaches are going deep into their Maths Internal Assessment.

The Mathematics IA in IBDP curriculum is an individual, 12-20 pages written project, often called a "Mathematical Exploration," that contributes 20% to your final IB math grade. It allows you to investigate a topic of personal interest, applying mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios or exploring theoretical concepts, and is marked by teachers and moderated by the IB.

Students are then choosing their topic of interest and working on it during this day with the supervision of the maths teachers. While some are modelling or applying mathematics to sport, art or economics, others are analyzing data and using statistical tests to lead their investigations.

The Maths IA seen as a mini research project is unique and interesting because it permits students to apply their maths knowledge and connect mathematical concepts to their real-world issues or their personal interests.
