The Standards

Code of Ethics.

The UWC Press exists because we believe student voices deserve a serious platform. Publishing here means accepting that this platform carries real responsibility. The following articles define how we hold ourselves to account.

The Articles

Article 01

Any discriminatory or defamatory behavior is strictly prohibited. This includes language resulting in the degradation of an individual or groups based on their sex, gender identity, parentage, race, language, homeland and origin, faith or religious/political opinions, or disability.

Article 02

Factuality is the core of journalism. Claims must be adequately supported by at least one clearly identifiable and reliable source. Oversimplification or misrepresentation is strongly discouraged, and stories must be contextualized.

Article 03

We respect individuals’ right to privacy. Where coverage of a person serves a genuine public interest within the UWC community — a student leader, an alumni figure, or a public institutional decision — that coverage must still be conducted with care and proportionality.

Article 04

Any current student, alumnus, parent, or staff member of a UWC school may submit a piece, provided it complies with this code. Submissions from contributors outside The UWC Press editorial team are subject to additional review. Publication is at the discretion of the editors.

Article 05

The UWC Press does not endorse products, services, or organisations for commercial gain. The publication is editorially independent and does not represent the views of any UWC school or UWC International. Coverage of institutional decisions is not subject to approval by those institutions.

Article 06

Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

The editorial team reserves the right to decline or remove any piece that violates this code. If you believe a published piece fails to meet these standards, contact us at theuwcpress@gmail.com.
