Yesterday, Friday 15th of May, RCN first year students completed a mandatory component of the IB Diploma Programme called the Collaborative Sciences Project. This is an interdisciplinary activity which brings together students from different science subjects like Environmental Science and Societies (ESS), Biology, Chemistry and Physics, to face real-world issues and propose solutions to address them.

At UWC Red Cross Nordic, our theme this year was “Food And Fuel”. From the morning to the afternoon, students, split into groups with their peers, explored various issues that they can tackle. From looking at how sustainable we can be while climbing Mount Everest to how much physical activity is required to burn the calories obtained from consuming specific food products, students develop team building, research, experimentation and analytical skills that can be linked to the IB learner profile.

This was such a vibrant day on a sunny campus where diversity was celebrated and where people could gather various thoughts from different perspectives in order to build something great.

At the end of their research, students presented their findings to the community and had a personal reflection on their teamwork, the challenges they faced and what they learned by collaborating with others. This was an amazing day at RCN!
